# Create your account

> Sign up, confirm your email, and set your organization up in Minto.

Setting up takes three things: creating an account, confirming your email
address, and answering a few questions about your organization. Ten minutes,
and you don't need a card unless you choose a paid plan.

  Minto currently supports **placement agents** — agencies that place interns at
  host firms. Sending organizations, host firms and interns appear as options
  when you sign up, but are marked "Coming soon" and can't complete setup yet.

## Create the account

    Enter your work **Email** and choose a **Password**, then confirm it.

    The password needs at least **8 characters, including an uppercase letter, a
    lowercase letter and a digit**. The form itself will let a shorter one
    through and the server then rejects it, so use eight or more from the start.

  <Step title="Agree to the terms">
    Select **I agree with the Terms of Service**. You can't continue without it.

    Select **Create account**. Minto emails you a confirmation link.

## Confirm your email

Open the link in the email. **You can't sign in until you do** — an unconfirmed
account is rejected at the sign-in page rather than being let in with a warning.

If it hasn't arrived, check your spam folder.

## Set up your organization

The first time you sign in, Minto walks you through a short wizard. Nothing here
is permanent — everything can be changed later under **Settings**.

    The other three options are marked **Coming soon**. Picking one tells you
    Minto isn't ready for that yet rather than letting you continue.

    Your **Business name**, **Country**, and **Address**. Pick the country
    first — the address search needs it before it can offer suggestions.

    Choose the free plan with **Get started**, or a paid one with **Start a
    trial** — the button names the trial length the plan offers.

    A paid plan sends you to Stripe to enter card details. See below for what
    happens if you change your mind there.

    Add colleagues by email address, or skip and do it later from **Settings** >
    **Employees**.

You land on your dashboard, with an empty organization ready to use.

## What you get, and what happens if you abandon payment

Your organization is created with a **free subscription before you ever reach
Stripe**. That's deliberate: if you pick a paid plan and then close the Stripe
page, you land on your dashboard with a working free account rather than a
half-created organization. Upgrade later from **Settings** > **Billing**.

The free plan covers the whole workflow — internships, interns, host firms,
placements and calls. Paid plans add share links, higher intern limits, API
access and custom branding. See

## If a colleague invited you

You don't create an organization — you join theirs.

Sign up with **the address the invitation was sent to**. When you first sign in,
Minto notices the pending invitation and offers it to you before the setup
wizard, so accept it there. You'll land in your colleague's organization with
whatever roles they gave you.

Signing up with a different address means Minto can't match the invitation, and
you'll be walked through creating a separate organization instead. If that
happens, ask them to re-send the invitation to the address you actually used.

## Troubleshooting

**You can't sign in after signing up.**
The email isn't confirmed yet. Open the link in the confirmation email first.

**The password is rejected even though the form accepted it.**
It needs at least 8 characters with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and
a digit.

**You picked the wrong type of organization.**
Only placement agent completes setup today, so if you chose another you'll have
been stopped rather than set up wrongly. Go back and choose **Placement agent**.

**You were invited but ended up with your own empty organization.**
You signed up with a different address than the invitation went to. Ask your
colleague to cancel the old invitation and send a new one to the address you
used.
